One of the reasons why I love blogging so much is that I like to get to know the people behind the blogs. What do they like, what do they dislike, what would they do on a Sunday afternoon if they had their way; everything that makes a person who they are. So, I thought I’d share some random facts about me!
1) I love reading. I’m a fast reader and am currently reading Robert Galbraith’s The Silkworm. I’m really enjoying it – can’t work out what’s going on yet though!
2) I can touch type. I can type on my laptop at record speed and be watching the tv at the same time. I love the fact that I can type a lot of words pretty quickly.
3) I want to work with animals one day. I hope that once I retire from conventional work, I can volunteer at an animal shelter and work with animals. I love all animals and think it would be really rewarding.
4) I LOVE food. As in, I wish I could be a food critic so I could eat all day. I get excited by new foods and am willing to try (almost) anything.
5) That being said, I hate aubergines (eggplant). It’s something about the texture, the way it slightly squeaks? Ew. I wish I liked it, as there always seems to be some amazing-sounding dish involving aubergines when we go out, but nope, don’t like it.
6) My hair grows really fast. My hair is currently down to just below my waist and it grows fast. Last time I went to the hair dressers, I got 8 inches off my hair but it’s grown back again. Still, shouldn’t complain! I love having long hair.
7) I always lose at Scrabble. You know the board game? Yep, I always lose. I seem to get stuck with 3 ‘i’s and then it’s all over. Or the ‘Q’ yet no ‘U’? Whereas my husband seems to get really good letters.
8) I like good stationary. I could browse for hours in Paperchase, admiring pretty folders, notebooks and writing paper. Usually I can walk out without lots, but sometimes you just need a new notebook.
9) I don’t like gardening. Perhaps it’s because I’m not very good at it and our garden is a bit of a mishmash, but I really don’t enjoy it. I do it because we have a garden, but I would happily pay for a gardener if I thought we could justify the cost.
10) Chocolate will always win out over fruit. Every time. I’m trying to eat healthily so we have fruit in our house and less chocolate, but if someone asked me whether I wanted chocolate or fruit for pudding, always chocolate. Always.
So there you have it! 10 random facts about me. Anything I’ve missed out? Any questions from anyone?
Does anyone else not like aubergines? Please say it’s not just me! I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
P.S do you have twitter? Follow me here!

Have you tried baba ganoush Nicola? No squeaking there ๐
Really surprised you don’t enjoy gardening! I thought it would fit in well with your plans. If it’s a mish-mash, why not set up a project to change it to what would suit you and your future plans – and then create it in as frugal a way as possible of course.

I haven’t tried that – I shall look it up! I love having a garden and when all the flowers are out i enjoy sitting out there – it’s more the weeding and keeping things under control I don’t like! Perhaps if I was growing fruit and veg and therefore there was a better end project I might like it more? I shall ponder that thought ๐ thanks for stopping by!

I do not like eggplant at all, either. I only ever ate it once. It was a recipe to induce labor and it took hoooooours to make. I’m not sure if it was the eggplant or standing up for all that time, but labor did start the next morning. But, yeah, ew.
Nicola says
I’m glad someone else doesn’t like it! Sounds like you went through a bit to induce labor :/

What a great list! My hair also grows super fast. I actually keep putting off making an appointment for a haircut.
Nicola says
I’m not very good at making hair appointments; I just tie my hair up and forget about it.
Brian @ Debt Discipline says
Always enjoy these type of list. #10. Chocolate. I think that can be said for most people!
Nicola says
Chocolate is good! In whatever form ๐
Erin @ Journey to Saving says
I think I have ten things in common with you =). I can’t imagine how it feels not to be able to touch type…I somehow taught myself when I was 10 or so, and then everyone in my class wanted me to type their essays for them. I don’t love food in general, though; I’m quite picky! I can’t do eggplant either.
Nicola says
My dad types with one finger and it drives me mad! It takes him ages to do things on the computer but it doesn’t seem to bother him.
No More Waffles says
Wait, aubergines are called eggplant in English? Completely made my day!
And chocolate, hmmm. ๐
Nicola says
In America and Canada they call aubergines eggplants. In the UK it’s generally aubergines ๐

Nicola
I think we should get married-I think I matched you point for point!!!!! Although I tolerate aubergine rather than hate it! ๐
Always lovely to know a bit more about people you read about!
Animals-I want to run a foster home for ex-service dogs when I have the time/space! Can’t get enough of them!!!

Nicola says
Haha I know, we seem to be pretty similar! We just need to live nearer so that I can come and help you run your foster home ๐

Erm love Aubergine and not keen on chocolate (sorry!), mind you most would kill me so a good idea to avoid it ๐
Lisa E. @ Lisa Vs. The Loans says
Chocolate is definitely > fruit! Haha, love this! I’m always adding to my “to read” list of books. What are some of your suggestions? Mostly looking for fiction at the moment.
Nicola says
I’ll do a post on my favourite reads lately as there are quite a few ๐
Mrs. Frugalwoods says
I enjoyed getting to know you better, Nicola! I think we have a lot in common :). I’m not a huge aubergine fan either–although I do love the color. My latest trick for trying to eat less chocolate is dried fruit. It’s pretty sweet and I’m trying to trick myself into thinking it’s a proper dessert. Operative work: trying ๐
Nicola says
Good luck with the dried fruit! I love dates but they’re quite expensive where we live so I only get a few.
NZ Muse says
Eggplant is one of those things I got to like as a grownup ๐ Seriously, growing up there were literally only about 5 different vegetables I would eat.
Nicola says
I’m hoping I might like it one day but it’s not looking good… thanks for stopping by!
