Hello April! Hopefully a month which brings warmer weather, and the days are longer. We don’t really have any plans in April, as the majority of the time me and my husband are at work. However, we’ll be spending our time relaxing and seeing friends and family, which is time well spent. We also want to get a few things done around the house so we’ll be focusing on that too.
Every month I like to set myself aims for the month, to keep myself focused and to make sure I actually use the time during the month wisely! There are two sets of aims: Finance and Personal. March was a bit hit and miss for aims, as we are changing our long term goals for some of them, so I’m hoping that April will get us back on track.
Financial aims for April:
– Have 20 No Spend Days (or NSDs)
– Overpay our mortgage by £120
– Put £700 into savings
I met my NSD aim for March, but I’m keeping the target the same for April. I’m secretly hoping that I may achieve more than this, but we shall see. I have mentioned that we are changing our short term overpayment targets so these will be reduced for the time being. Finally, as we didn’t reach our savings target for March for a number of reasons, I have kept the number the same for April and I’m going to try my hardest to meet this, if not try to get higher than this. I think that April will have to be a month where we only spend what we actually need to, and no more.
Personal Aims for April:
– bake something
– eat healthily
– get a new carpet for the spare room
As soon as the new oven arrives, I want to test it out by baking something. I might do some shortbread biscuits to have with a cup of tea, or perhaps some flapjacks. Something that is straightforward but tasty. Rather than say diet, or lose so many lbs, I’m just going to focus on eating healthily, everything in moderation so to speak. Finally, we are in the process of decorating the spare bedroom – my husband has painted the walls and removed the horrible old carpet in there – so we need to get a new carpet. It looks a million times better already and once a new carpet is in there, it’ll be a totally new room.
Do you have any aims for this month? What will challenge you the most? I’d love to hear from you!

We don’t have any particular goals for April, as our goals are split throughout the year not on a monthly basis.
An unofficial goal however, is to get up earlier on the days I go to work – try to get up at 7.30 latest!

I get up at 6:45am for work and it’s a struggle most mornings! Good luck with getting up earlier – I’m so not a morning person.

Nicola, this April, I would try to pay my credit card bills twice this month because it’s summer and kids don’t have school. This is also to increase my credit score.
