Here are 8 frugal halloween activities you can do:
- Make a hanging ghost for your entrance. Blow up a white balloon, cover with a sheet and secure around the ballon with a bobble. Draw on the eyes with a black sharpie
and hang in your entrance hall; perfect for welcoming guests to your house!
- Tell ghost stories in the dark. The scarier the better! If you need a torch
, then so be it. But, remember, don’t look behind you…
- Halloween wouldn’t be complete without candles! How about making your own halloween luminaries?
- Why not make your own potion? Using a bowl and some ingredients from your cupboards, see what tasty (or not!) potion you can come up with! You definitely get bonus points if you want to actually eat/drink your potion…
- Carving a pumpkin! You could even have a pumpkin carving party and judge the best. All you need is some pumpkins and a knife. Plus a template if you’re like me, who can’t draw at all.
- Watch a movie with a Halloween theme! My favourite would definitely be Hocus Pocus

- Make a Halloween wreath – look at this one! I’d love to be that creative, the artist gene bypassed me by.
- Face painting! Who can paint the scariest, or perhaps most realist face; how about a zombie
or vampire

As an adult, we generally don’t do a lot for Halloween, though I have been to some parties in the past! However, I love getting into the spirit of the holiday as I love scary things. I can’t wait until our son is a little older and we can do some of these things with him. I’m hoping he’ll love it!

Here in Alaska, we do a thing called “Trunk or Treat” where a whole bunch of cars line up in a parking lot with decorated trunks and the kids “trick or treat” down the line. As a parent, this is the ideal scenario because it’s often very cold and snowy by Halloween around here and this allows my kids to get full bags of candy in about fifteen minutes. Then we can go home, put on a movie, and eat it in our nice warm house!
I love this idea
A good Halloween decoration is draw some scary stuff on a milk jug, cut a hole in the milk jug, and put a candle inside.

When we had kids, this was the time we had to celebrate Halloween. We prepare for this event as kids love trick or treat. This year’s event, I think my kids would love to make Halloween luminaries. It’s a perfect bonding activity.
