I cannot believe August is over; I’m not ready for the summer holidays to end and the routine begins again. Frugal Toddler is going to be going to nursery full time from next week and I’m not sure he’s going to know what’s happened! Mornings are definitely going to be interesting; a lot of organisation to make sure we all get out of the door on time.
Frugal Toddler also turned 3 in August 🙂 how is my first baby 3 already?! We had a little birthday party for him just at our house with family. It was a nice sunny day so we were able to be in the garden. He got some lovely presents from everyone and he loved it. The only slight snag was that the birthday cake I made him collapsed due to the heat! So I made Mr FC pop out and get a shop bought one, which thankfully he liked.
Not much else has happened in August; we spent some time with my parents which was lovely as they live near the seaside. There’s nothing better than the sea air for the soul 🙂 and I seem to have struggled a lot with spending money. Lifestyle creep has definitely played it’s part this month as I seem to have spent most days, which is unlike me.
My Financial aims for August were:
– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)
– Overpay our mortgage by £85
– Put £600 into savings
I have struggled with spending money, or rather not spending money during August. As we have been out and about much more than usual, inevitably spends have crept in. Even things like getting a drink whilst we’re out, or an ice cream if it’s sunny. Little spends, but they add up non the less. So, I’ve managed a fairly dismal 13 NSDs during August.
And, as a repercussion of that, I have only managed to overpay £5.26 on our mortgage. Nothing much to say about that.
But, something positive – I have managed to hit my savings aim! We have struggled during my maternity leave to hit our savings aim but we have done it this month 🙂 it will mean that September is tight but that doesn’t matter; we have put £602.36 into savings this month.
My Personal Aims For August were:
– have 20 days on plan on Slimming World
– look at Kindle publishing.
– get my hair cut
Urgh, Slimming World. All of this time off and with days out, I can’t even say I’m following the plan, much less sticking to it. I have had far too much fun without worrying about what I’m eating. But, I am feeling it now though so need to cut down a bit which will be easier when I’m back at work on Monday. I have looked at Kindle Publishing and there’s much to learn about it all. Excited about that, though! And finally, I have got my hair cut 🙂 a much needed hair cut!

It is always the small spends that knock my budget off course if anything, but I’ve never tried no spend days before! I think I need to join in in September and see how I can get on. I’ll make sure to keep up to date in the facebook group! 🙂

August has been … odd … I had great plans and they all (or most) got sidelined by illness! Ah well another month to attack tomorrow!

Glorious month of August, last /2 weeks spent in a large house in Brittany, entertaining children and grandchildren. Feeling smug because this was in the plan from last year, so has been budgeted for. The misery I felt through the winter at NSD and making sure that the right amount was put away each month has all been worth it.
End of the summer has been marred a little by the death of my lovely BIL at the tragically early age of 59 after a heroic battle, bravely fought, against a devastating illness,, after so many hurdles to succumb to sepsis seems so, so cruel, but his fragile health meant the body could not summon up the power to overcome. Our heartfelt thoughts hanks to the paramedics and ICU team who tried every trick in the book before admitting that all was lost, and a peaceful sleep was what was needed. RIP.
Forward to September.

I’m sorry to hear about your BIL, that must be so tough. And good luck with your aims – let me know how you get on!
