Dating can be an expensive affair, with meals out and drinks on the tab. Even when you’ve been married as long as Mr FC and I (5 years and counting ๐ ) it’s still nice to do things as a couple. But, when you’re on a money saving mission and on a budget, finding date ideas that don’t cost a fortune can be tricky.
The point of a frugal date is to make sure you’ve having a fun time, but sticking to a budget ๐ there are plenty of options, so just because it might rule out a couple of things, you’d be surprised what you can do with little money!
Have a home cooked candle lit meal at home. Even if this means cheating a little, perhaps with an M&S dine in 2 meal, having a candle lit meal with tasty food and just the two of you can be quite special. It could be tricky if you’ve got children to deal with first, but this will feel special ๐
Go for a hike somewhere. If you’ve got some parks or woodland nearby, then perfect. But spend some time outside with each other; the fresh air will do you the world of good, you’ll get some exercise thrown in and have fun at the same time!
Bake some gingerbread men. I know this sounds a little silly, but the smell of baking is one of the best there is. Take some time to make the gingerbread dough, and then cut them out using cutters like these. Once they’re cooled, you could then decorate them. Who can decorate them the best?
Watch a Halloween/Christmas movie. You might have to compromise on what the film is! But a feel good film, perhaps some popcorn or another favourite movie snack and your evening is sorted.
Play a board game. An old fashioned night of board games can bring out the best (or worst) in people. I love Scrabble but I always seem to lose. I get really rubbish combinations, like 3 i’s which is no use to anyone! But, I do enjoy it. I can’t wait until Frugal Baby is old enough to start playing board games ๐
Treat each other to at at-home spa treatment. A hand massage or facial using some body lotion could be so relaxing. Dim the lights, light some candles and set the mood. Just don’t blame the other if you fall asleep!
These are just some date ideas for the colder months, which hopefully won’t break the bank. It is important to factor in some time for just the two of you, especially as life can be so busy at times. Spending time with your significant other is also important!
Do you have any other ideas you would add to the list? Let me know in the comments!ย

These are such cute ideas! I just got a gingerbread man cookie cutter from the thrift store that I’ve been meaning to use. Maybe we’ll have a cookie-making date night. ๐
