It can be very difficult to escape the advertising about online shopping, from your favourite clothes shops to eco-friendly living to handmade baby toys. There is an online shop for everything! And, they can be a great temptation to overspend. Especially if you’re tired and having a quick browse online; before you know it you’ve probably added four or five things and gone through the checkout. The process takes minutes, and you’re done.
But, used in a frugal and money savvy way, shopping online can really help you to save money.
Firstly, you can see what you’re spending before you spend it. I know this sounds daft, but when you add things to an online basket, you can see the total spend right before you. No ignoring it, in fact. But, that’s a good thing. When you’re wandering around a shop just grabbing things that you like the look of, you probably aren’t adding up a running total as you go around. I know I don’t! Then you get to the till and see what happens.
Online shopping helps you to see how much you are spending and whether what you are intending to buy fits in with your budget. If it doesn’t, you can remove it from your basket and not worry about overspending.
It is also much easier to bulk buy online. Take your grocery shopping; you could bulk buy items you know you will use, as this often works out cheaper. Especially big bags of rice and pasta, for example. The bigger bag you can purchase, the bigger the savings. This can work on lots of household items too, so long as you have got the space to store them. Things like detergent, when bought in the bigger sizes, have a much better value.
On Monday it was Amazon Prime Day, where there were lots of bargains to be had if you were online and wanted to spend. Lots of electronic items there reduced which could have made good Christmas presents!
I’ve teamed up with the team at Black Friday Deals Online to offer you a chance to win a £100 Amazon gift voucher so you can use it to get yourself some bargains online. All you need to do is:
- Like The Frugal Cottage Facebook page
- Comment below saying what you would spend the voucher on!
- This will end on Wednesday 25th July at midnight and a winner chosen at random.
That’s it! And be sure to check out the website Black Friday Deals Online as they have lots of links to some great deals.
