Goodbye July! It’s been a strange month so it feels a bit odd that it’s over. It has taken an age to go by, yet it’s over already – does that make sense? I also said at the start of the month that it should be relatively quiet but it hasn’t turned out that way – at all!
Firstly, we have finally got our house back 🙂 Would anyone be interested in a kitchen tour? I could film one and put it on YouTube if you want. Our new kitchen is beautiful – really worth the wait! It’s all decorated and we have a gorgeous new dining table in there too; something that should last us forever. We still have some things to buy – bar stools for the breakfast bar, extra dining chairs and a small sofa, but we’ll get those over time. This is a picture of the kitchen before the table arrived:
We also added in a small utility room and downstairs toilet which has been great now that Alfie is out of nappies – it’s so much closer when he suddenly decides he needs a wee! These are the tiles in the utility room, plus the new cat den which Luna loves:
So yes, very happy with it 🙂
I also have been featured in the news twice this month! Firstly a short film with my entire family about not buying new toys or clothes this year. I received quite a lot of positive reactions to that, though there were inevitably people who didn’t quite understand the reasons behind it. The film was lovely to watch though – our boys are cute. I then had an article published in the Daily Mail around the same topic. I haven’t read the comments online about that 😉
Finally, it is now the summer holidays in the UK and I am enjoying being at home with my children. Yes, it’s chaos at times and it’s been far too hot for them the past week but it’s been good too. They are growing so fast!
My Financial aims for July were:
– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)
– Overpay our mortgage by £185
– Put £300 into savings
NSDs have proved more difficult this month that I thought they would have been. As I said at the start I thought the month would be quiet but it hasn’t in the end so I haven’t quite achieved my target. I have managed 17 NSDs in July so just behind it. I have overpaid our mortgage by £190.76 so I have done this 🙂 it is satisfying to see the numbers come down, bit by bit. And finally, I have transferred £600 into savings this month so back to normal, so to speak. It would be good to get this higher, but it’ll have to do for now.
My Personal Aims For July were:
– go to bed at a reasonable time
– have a salad every day for lunch
I have been much better at going to bed earlier; I have been managing to read a bit before bed and then go to sleep at a good time. It makes me feel so much better when I do this! The only time when I haven’t is when we’re watching a series on Netflix and watch one too many episodes 🙂 and I started the month off really well having salads every day for lunch but I quickly got bored of them – maybe because what I make isn’t particularly exciting?
