Hello July! I can’t believe that we’re already halfway through 2016; this year seems to be flying by. July for us is relatively quiet as we have nothing special planned. I’m hoping that the weather picks up so that we can go for family days out and enjoy being outside.
I am pondering about whether or not to try and do another No Spend month for July as I really want to get back with our savings and longer term goals. But, I don’t know about anyone else, but I definitely seem to spend more in the summer? I’m not sure why that is, but I suppose when you’re out and about more, the spends can easily add up. Plus, there’s always ice cream! I think we are still finding a balance of being at work and having a family and balancing the time between the two, so there are bound to be some teething problems along the way (and actual teething problems, the Frugal Baby is teething at the moment and not enjoying it one bit).
Every month I like to set myself aims for the month, to keep myself focused and to make sure I actually use the time during the month wisely! There are two sets of aims: Finance and Personal. June turned out to be great in the end, so I’m hoping that July will be just as positive. I am also thinking that I might try and do a car boot sale during the month, if the weather is good enough and I can get enough stuff together to make it worth while. We shall see!
Financial aims for July:
– Have 20 No Spend Days (NSDs)
– Overpay our mortgage by £100
– Put £600 into savings
I didn’t manage to hit my NSD for June, but I’m still raising the target for July. If I want to hit our savings target, then I need to have more of them! As we don’t have too much on during to July, I am determined to meet this, if not exceed this aim. I mentioned in a previous post about not knowing what to do about overpayments; I want to continue to make them as being mortgage free is a big part of our plan, plus the saving in interest from paying off your mortgage early can be huge. But, it’s a fine balance! But, this is the first time in months I’ve committed an actual number to this, so here’s to meeting this aim. The savings target for the month is slightly higher than previous months, as I continue to try and get us back on track.
Personal Aims For June:
– lose 7lbs
– continue to declutter things from our home
– finish decorating the hall and staircase.
So, a new month means the continuation of my #30beforethirty challenge and I really need to focus we’re over halfway through the year now! So, I’ve upped by monthly target to 7lbs off for the month, which I know I can do if I put my mind to it. I managed really well in June so I’m hoping to continue that success in July. I want to continue to simplify our home and that means sorting out and getting rid of the excess things we don’t need. I am definitely thinking about a car boot sale, which will get rid of more clutter and hopefully bring in some pennies at the same time. Finally, I desperately want the hall and staircase to be finished before our son’s first birthday at the start of August, so this is on here again, as it needs to just be done! I’m getting fed up of living in DIY mess.
Here’s to July being great, for all of us!
Do you have any aims for this month? What will challenge you the most? I’d love to hear from you!

My aims are to earn at least £340 Matched Betting, write at least 5 blog posts, do 3 more modules of my TEFL qualification and pay off a least another £500 off the family loan.
Good luck with yours!

Out of curiosity, why don’t you set up an automatic deposit system into savings so that you save the same amount every month? I find that if I leave money in my bank account that I tend to spend it, but if I take it out as soon as I get paid, that it’s far easier to save.

I hadn’t thought of that, to be honest. I shall look into it!

It’s already July. Time really passes by so quickly. It was like new year yesterday. Oh my! Hope we are achieving almost all of our goals. 😀
