Hello June! Another month to work through, to have fun and exiting times, and to get further along in our financial journey. We’ve got a little family holiday planned in June which I’m really looking forward to; it’ll be our first time away as a family of three! Other than that, June is quite a quiet month for us as we just bumble along in our everyday routine. Nothing wrong with quiet!
Every month I like to set myself aims for the month, to keep myself focused and to make sure I actually use the time during the month wisely! There are two sets of aims: Finance and Personal. May was very hit and miss in the end, so I’m hoping that June will be more positive in that respect. I’m hoping that now that our income is higher and we’re getting a bit more used to balancing home and work, that our spending and saving this month will reflect that in the end.
Financial aims for June:
– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)
– Overpay our mortgage by something
– Put £500 into savings
I just managed to hit our NSD for May, getting the final one on the last day of the month, so I’ve kept it the same for June. Going on holiday for a week probably won’t help this, but I’m going to try anyway! Our mortgage overpayment targets have changed again; I want to continue overpaying but I don’t know if we can commit to a certain number at this stage. However, as being mortgage free is a big part of our goals, I want to continue to overpay for as long as we can, even if it’s a small number. The savings target for the month is slightly higher than previous months, even though I haven’t managed to hit my target for ages. I desperately need to start being able to save more, so I need to focus on ways to manage this.
Personal Aims For June:
– lose 6lbs
– continue to declutter things from our home
– finish decorating the hall and staircase.
So, a new month means the continuation of my #30beforethirty challenge and I really need to focus as I haven’t done too well in this respect during the year so far. So, I’ve upped by monthly target to 6lbs off for the month, which I know I can do if I put my mind to it. I want to continue to simplify our home and that means sorting out and getting rid of the excess things we don’t need. I keep listing things on eBay and they sell slowly, but it’s better than nothing and more things that are no longer in our home. And finally, we are doing some home improvements this month which will mean that our house will look so much better and more to our tastes. It’s a much slower job than we’d anticipated, so here’s hoping it might be finished by the end of the month (although I keep saying that and it still looks the same….).
Do you have any aims for this month? What will challenge you the most? I’d love to hear from you!
