Happy Monday! Last week has been absolutely crazy after being featured on the BBC so I haven’t got round to posting much else. So, we’re already back to Monday and another meal plan post. This just goes through what we’re eating this week so keep our food spends under budget. I have definitely honed my skills in this area for a long time now – and have even written a course about it here – so we have very little food waste and our meal plans are cheap and tasty!

Not much planned this week apart from the fact that I am now on holiday – yay! I do think this might have an impact on our food budget, as we are at home for all meals. It shouldn’t in theory; we can eat the same as we would do at work but having access to the kitchen means I can be slightly more varied. We are out for the day on Tuesday at an adventure farm so I have a slow cooker meal planned for when we get home. Not much else apart from that!
This week’s meal plan looks like this:
Monday – pesto pasta with garlic mushrooms
Tuesday – slow cooker spaghetti bolognese
Wednesday – pea and bacon risotto
Thursday – salmon special egg fried rice
Friday – jacket potato with cheese and beans
Saturday – pizza
I do our food shop on a Sunday so I haven’t thought about what we’ll have next weekend! But I’m looking forward to the meals this week. Both boys will eat the same as us all week as well which helps. I love it when we can all eat the same meals together 🙂 plus it makes it a lot easier as I only have to think about one meal rather than different things. Keeps the cost down too 😉
For my lunches this week I have got more salad things, as per my aim for July. The boys usually have a sandwich of some description with fruit and yogurt for afters. Breakfast in our house is just cereal; either wheetabix or shreddies with banana. Goes down well with everyone and fairly health + cheap!

Part of our planning and budget for food means that some items are used from our stockpile every week. This is so the food we already have in the cupboards is used regularly and rotated so nothing goes to waste, but it’s also a good habit to get in to so that if we cannot get to the shops for whatever reason, I can make meals from what we already have in the cupboards. Using a combination of fresh and frozen food really keeps our grocery budget down. Saying that, nothing is being used from our stockpile this week. Other than the dried pasta I suppose, but that’s a kitchen staple.
