Hello November! I love this time of year, when the evenings get cooler and darker. The clocks have gone back in the UK this weekend, so mornings are lighter for a brief time. I love the thought of being all cosy inside when it’s cold outside. I hope we have a proper winter this year, with snow! November begins to slow journey towards the holidays too. Although, it does mean that my thirtieth birthday creeps ever closer 🙁
Anyway, November looks to be a quiet month for us, bar one wedding on the 11th. It’s a school friend and we are invited to the evening do. They don’t have a gift list so we shall give them some money as their present. I am hoping to have at least 50% of our Christmas shopping done by the end of November. We also have a few birthdays in December, including mine and Mr FC’s, so I need to start getting those too.
Financial aims for November:
– Have 18 No Spend Days (NSDs)
– Overpay our mortgage by £100
– Put £700 into savings
NSDs seem to be very elusive at the moment. I completely failed in my October challenge, so I’ve reduced the target for November. The fact that we have nothing planned bar one wedding means that hopefully I will reach this. I just need to get back to my very organised self! Continuing with plodding along with mortgage payments, I am aiming for £100 this month. This seems like a good number to aim for at the moment. Lastly, the savings aim is just the same as last month. Although it needs to be higher, decorating and holiday shopping will probably make this a stretch.
Personal Aims For November:
– eat less processed/more fresh food
– finish decorating the staircase/hallway
– have no takeaways
I am getting more conscious about how we eat, especially now Frugal Baby is eating more and more “normal” foods. I want us to concentrate on eating less processed food. Focusing on fresh ingredients will help our energy and mood at the moment. Our staircase and hallway is still nowhere near finished but we are getting it done this month with some help. I can’t wait until it is done! Lastly, having no takeaways during the month will be good for our pocket and our waist lines. We have fallen into bad habits lately, mainly because I feel so tired, so need to break this. This will also help with the first personal aim.
Here’s to November being great! What are your aims for the month? I’d love to hear them!

Good luck with your November aims! Can sympathise with feeling too tired to cook when children are tiny.
In case it helps with avoiding takeaways, when my two were really young I ended up cooking at completely different times.
I did a lot of the prep, and sometimes the cooking itself, first thing in the morning.
That way, it was much easier when I was exhausted in the evening to finish off something I’d already planned, heat something up or point my husband in the right direction.
Cooking vast quantities and freezing portions helped too.

Thank you! I think I need to do some more batch cooking, that would help on those nights where the last thing I want to do is cook. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

I’m doing another No-Spend month. My husband’s work vehicle had an engine failure, and the cost of repair will exceed the value of the car by almost double, so he’s in the market to replace it with a suitable used truck.
So.. belt tightening, all around.

Sorry to hear about your husband’s work vehicle – how annoying! Good luck with your no spend month 🙂

I’m actually doing a no spend year. I started in late October and so far it’s going great.
