I am always trying to save money on our groceries, as it can quickly get out of hand. Every household should have a budget for groceries, but it can be easily blown if you’re not careful. However, I was recently introduced to a website where you can save big money on your groceries. This website is called Approved Food.
From their website, Approved Food sums up their business by saying:
Every year in the UK over 7 million tonnes of food and drink is thrown away, a lot of which has past its ‘best before’ date, but would still be perfectly good to eat.
We specialise in surplus and short-dated stock, food that is either near or just passed its ‘best before’ date – allowing us to pass on huge savings to our customers.
That is such a big amount of food that is thrown away each year in the UK. Just because of a small date printed on the packet which consumers feel they need to go by. Most of the time, this food would have been fine to eat. This is where Approved Food comes in.
They get items which are near to their best before date, and can sell them on very cheaply to their customers. There are some great savings, especially for store cupboard items. Great for putting in your stockpile. These are just some of the great offers available currently on Approved Food (screen shots from their website):
Each day they have a deal of the day, where you can get a specific item for an incredibly low price. Check back each day to see what bargains you can get that day!
As you can see, there are so many different items to choose from. You could definitely get the majority of your grocery shop from Approved Food and save so much money by doing so.
My order with Approved Food was very straight forward. They were kind enough to add some credit to my account so I could test out their services. I ordered entirely grocery items, although there are home and health and beauty categories on the website as well. It took me a while to choose what products I wanted to order, just because there was so much on offer! In the end, I ordered things that I knew we would use, things for our stockpile and products for Mr FC to take to work with him.
Here are some of the things that we ordered from Approved Food:
Overall, I ordered products that came to £25, with a saving of £31.58, which I think is fantastic. I ordered a lot more than these pictures show, these are just a small shot of what arrived. I did order quite a lot of cereal, as both me and Mr FC eat cereal for breakfast. Shredded Wheat with warm milk is one of my favourite winter breakfasts! I can also confess to the fact that the Cadburys Fingers didn’t last long 🙂 I can’t wait to try the Paul Hollywood bread mix; it’ll be lovely to have warm bread fresh from the oven with some soup for tea.
The delivery was excellent too; all of the products arrived in two big cardboard boxes by courier. Everything was packaged securely and nothing was damaged. An extra bonus was that the Frugal Cats liked to play with the empty boxes as well!
I would definitely recommend Approved Food and will be keeping an eye on what appears as it gets nearer to Christmas. Have a look and see for yourself! I bet you end up saving lots on your groceries.

I’ve looked at approved foods before… they have some brilliant bargains, inc 1p for 40 tea bags! I think if I used approved foods, I’d end up buying spending more because it looks so cheap, if you see what I mean.
