If this isn’t obvious by now, I like my food! I especially like it when a recipe is really straightforward and doesn’t require much faff. This recipe is exactly that! It is so easy; just put lots of stuff in the slow cooker and leave it to work the magic that a slow cooker does. I have already written a post on how everyone should own a slow cooker. This recipe is a prime example of why; you can use a cheap cut of meat and it turns out beautiful and tender.
This is also a good budget one, as it may contain things in your stockpile. Or, if you don’t have any of the ingredients to hand, they’re fairly cheap to buy. This is a regular on our meal plan.
You will need (to serve 4):
- 400g stewing steak
- 25g plain flour
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 bell peppers, sliced
- 2 tbsps tomato puree
- 375ml beef stock
- 2 large tomatoes, quartered
- 1 clove of garlic, crushed
- 1 bouquet garni
- 2 tsps paprika
Method:
- Mix the flour and stewing steak together so evenly coated. Season well with salt + pepper
- Add the onions and peppers to the bottom of SC
- Add the tomato puree and tomatoes
- Add in the floured steak
- Pour in the beef stock
- Add in the bouquet Garni and the crushed garlic
- Add in the paprika and mix well
- Leave on low for 6-8 hours, then serve!
There are a couple of extras you can do – if you want to. You could fry the steak off in a frying pan to give it some colour first – after coating it in flour. I don’t do this but you can if you want 🙂 also serving suggestions; I tend to have ours with either rice ( as pictured) or with mashed potato. You want something that will soak up the lovely sauce it creates whilst in the slow cooker 🙂
Let me know if you try it!
