I think there’s a small part in all of us that can dream about winning the lottery. About checking your numbers and seeing that you’ve got them all, that you’re the winner. All that money! Of course, actually buying a ticket will help in that.
But, I like to sometimes think about what I would do if I won the lottery. What I would spend it on, initially, and what I wouldn’t change in terms of our lifestyle. It’s hard to imagine that we would suddenly get all spend-y and blow the money, but there are some things I would definitely do!
The first thing would be to pay off our mortgage. Though it isn’t particularly big, getting that out of the way first would be amazing. Imagine, not having that monthly payment again! Some people might want to move house to somewhere bigger, but I think I’d want to wait a while and see what happens in the coming months before doing that. Uprooting the boys is a massive change, so one thing at a time.
I’d also buy us a new, bigger car. If we’ve won a large sum of money (let’s say multiple millions) then I’d definitely buy a bigger car. I secretly would love to have a Range Rover one day, though I know that on our budget with our dreams, it isn’t realistically possible. If we’re new millionaires though, it totally is!
I’ve also mentioned before that I’d love a cleaner. If we won the lottery, I would definitely get onto having someone come and clean our house on a weekly basis. And a gardener! The little luxury of having someone else do that so you have even more of your own time to yourself.
I would love to book a nice holiday somewhere abroad, with all the extras that you could possibly need with two young children. I have seen a couple of holiday companies that cater specifically to families with children but they are quite expensive.
We would obviously help out various family members, plus some friends too. Share the wealth, so to speak. We have some very deserving family and friends who could do with some extra cash, so we’d definitely share it around. Imagine the look on their faces when you told them you were giving them a large sum of money. That must feel wonderful ☺
But, there are some things I wouldn’t change.
I wouldn’t stop meal planning. I am a big fan of writing out a meal plan and a shopping list, then only buying what’s on the list. This saves us money but also eliminates food waste. A win-win all around!
I also wouldn’t stop investing to build up a dividend stream. Yes, we would have (much) more money but I enjoy researching companies and their business information. I also LOVE logging in and seeing that I’ve received some more dividend payments and I don’t think that would ever change. With more money to invest, this would be more frequent so would build up even quicker.
I also wouldn’t stop blogging. I know I write a blog about frugal living and living on a budget, but I love it. I love being able to connect to people, via here on the blog or via social media. I have met some great people! And I would continue blogging, though perhaps more lifestyle posts in the mix too.
Another thing that I don’t think I would change is how little I go clothes shopping. I honestly do not find going shopping enjoyable and I don’t want the clutter in our house, so I don’t think this would change. Perhaps the places I got my clothes from would, but the amount? No. I might treat myself to a designer bag or two though!
Finally, I’ve actually got a little giveaway for you! The lovely people over at Lottoland – whom this post is in collaboration with – have said that they can give £50 credit to a lucky winner, so that maybe you could actually win big on the lottery! Imagine that! (and don’t forget your favourite PF blogger if you do… 😉 )
All you have to do is comment below and say what you would do if you won! [Giveaway ends on Monday 30th at Midnight]

Oh now you’ve got me thinking… I would clear my debt, pay off the mortgage, invest a large amount and taking inspiration from (read as stealing) your ideas, I’d hire a cleaner and a gardener! It would be lovely no to have to worry about those things every week. Oh and of course I’d have to enjoy a lovely holiday too!

If I won big I’d visit and make a major donation to the sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica … then I’d give the rest away to other charities.

If I won the lottery I would fast forward my ‘Change my life plans’ from a couple of years to a couple of months so that my new life of helping people could start sooner

Hi 😀,
This may sound mental considering I have no agricultural experience whatsoever, but I’d love to buy a farm. I love the idea of starting a family business and and having lots of animals running around.
The first thing I would do though is buy my dad a little house, then I’d take my whole family on an amazing holiday, share the money with family and friends, get my teeth fixed as I hate them and maybe then I’d buy my farm 😊.

If I won, I would split it three ways, charity, investments and travelling the world. I would like to start on my life goal to see 75.% of the world.

If I won the lottery I would give some money to my family, pay off the car debt and put some money aside for my daughter’s university. I would also like to do all the jobs around the house that need to be done.

I would give most of the money to our two children to help with housing costs

Love reading your posts! Very inspiring 😀
If I won a couple of million on the Lottery, I would buy a nice big house in the Countryside and buy a flat in Central London so I would have two properties to be at. Have a bit of a portfolio with properties up north. Live comfortable and have money in bonds.

I would love to get married! My partner and I can’t justify spending so much on one day when there is mortgage and house improvements to make, so it would be amazing to throw a lavish party and celebrate with all our family and friends!

Let’s see – 10% to charity -Pay off all debt -Invest for a comfortable retirement -travel
Now, if I won a ridiculous amount 🙂 I would travel First Class – I’ve already told my best friend that we would sail to England on the Cunard Line – we’d stay at Claridges and go to every single exhibit in London that we wanted to see. Then we’d travel via The Orient Express to Paris and then Venice!
Oh – and I’ve always said that my one personal luxury would be to have my shoes custom made! I have terrible feet and have always had problems getting really nice shoes so this is something that has always been on my “When I win the lottery list”!

Assuming it would be an obscene amount I’d won, I’d share most of it with my immediate family and some close friends. Buy properties, both to live in and as investments. Tick off the countries I’ve always wanted to visit but which have been out of my price/time range, eg the USA and Canada..
Once me and my loved ones are sorted, and I tire of travelling, then I’d hope to do some charitable good with whatever’s left.
I would be lying if I said that I would continue to be as frugal as that kind of money will inevitably change my mindset and outlook to life.

Ooh first and foremost lose the mortgage, my house is awesome so defo wouldn’t move. Then invest life changing amounts for my 2 children for when they are older. Buy my parents a Range Rover – they too would love it but would never splurge that sort of cash.
Buy more diamonds 😊 – I flipping love bling. Have a ace holiday with hubby then go back to work x

I’d pay off my debts and mortgage, set up investments for the kids futures, help family and friends pay off their mortgages, and if there was a bit left go on a holiday and invest the rest.
